TRAINS RULES 2012

NOTICE TO ALL DRIVERS:
It is intent that Varney Speedway Motorplex trusts each driver to build their car to fit the rules, for the class they are running in. ALL drivers should come to the track with this in mind, and NO driver should take it upon themselves to make their car and then expect the track to change the rules to fit their car. It is also the driver’s sole responsibility to ensure anyone doing any work on their car follows the rules of their class along with any purchased parts going into their car should be checked before hand to ensure they meet our rules.

  1. LEAD CARS:  The lead car MUST be able to pass Tech as if it was an Enduro car. Open to any North American car, 2 door, 4 doors or station wagon, or small pickup truck stock engine for make and model of car. Trucks may use v8 Chevy 350 ford 351 dodge 360 must be in stock location. Lead vehicle must be absolute stock for that make, model, and year with no modifications. NONE!! Car all No lumber, chain, spacer, cutting or welding allowed suspension parts no adjustment of caster or camber on lead vehicle. Headers will be allowed. 
  2. SECOND & THIRD CARS:  Minimum roll cage is required is mandatory.
    2a.  BODY APPEARANCE:  Body must be stock appearing, in stock position on frame on stock rubber mounts. All moldings, ornaments, door handles, glass, and plastic components must be removed except grill and windshield. No scrub rail may allowed No reinforcement on the outside of the body. Driver’s door should be reinforced with a flat steel plate either inside the door or on the outside roof panels must remain stock (no gutting or trimming). No aluminum body panels. Inner door panels must be stock. Drivers door may be gutted if car is equipped with 4 drivers door bars. Stock spoilers only. No hood scoops or ground effect skirts. If door skins or fenders are replaced with body steel, they must be stock appearing. Race cars participating in racing events must be complete, stock appearing and presentable at all times. The Technical Committee at any event may reject cars that are considered improperly prepared. Cars that are considered unsafe to driver, competitors, staff or fans will be rejected and not allowed on the track. No shortening or lengthening of cars.
    2b.  BRAKES:  Stock front brakes in good working condition are compulsory and are subject to test and inspection. Pedal must be in original position. All three cars must have working brakes.
    2c.  BUMPERS:  Stock bumpers must be mounted in stock location, front & back.  All bumpers must be fastened so they will not fall off (suggest metal straps welded to frame horns and then to bumper).  Reinforced bumpers will be disqualified and you will not be allowed to run. Homemade bumpers must be no more than equal to stock for the make and model of the lead vehicle.
    2d.  DOORS:  Must be welded or bolted securely. Doors must not be cut down.
    2e.  FIRE SAFETY/CONTROL:  Cars must have an approved fire extinguisher mounted in a secure mounting bracket and within driver's reach with seat belts fastened. Fire extinguisher must have a gauge and if the extinguisher is older than three years, it must have a recharge slip dated within two years. All lead cars must have two kill switches one on each side of the vehicle that are within reach of the safety crew. Kill switches are to be clearly marked ON/OFF. A driver's racing suit with a recommended rating of SFI 3.2A/1 or better is mandatory for all lead car drivers. Treated coveralls or a complete driver's racing suit is mandatory for the second and third car driver.
    Flame Retardant Solution - 6oz Boric acid, one-gallon water, 9 oz Borax. Soak in the above solution for 30 minutes. Allow to drip dry.
    2f.   INTERIOR:  All flammable material must be removed except driver’s seat and stock dash (dash optional). A solid bucket seat with a good side support or racing seat must be used and must be securely mounted. Seat must be positioned completely to the left of the centerline of the car. Aluminum racing seats are highly recommended. Fiberglass racing seats are not recommended and if used they must be in good condition and have a steel frame which prevents seat breakage. A solid headrest is mandatory and is subject to test. Interiors must be vacuumed out, free off glass, screws, rivets and other debris. 2g. PAINT AND LETTERING: All cars must be neatly and brightly painted. Numbers assigned by the Track must be painted legibly on both sides of car and on roof in min. 24” high and 2” wide. Numbers to be read from right side in a colour offering distinct contrast to the colour of the car. No trick numbers. No foil numbers.
    2h.  ROLL CAGE:  A full Street Stock roll cage is recommended for all train cars. The minimum cage that will be accepted is an Enduro cage (shown in the diagram). The cage must be constructed of minimum 1-3/4” O.D. .095” wall tubing. Uni-body cars must have a 12” X 12” X 3/16” plate under the uprights and support bars bolted and welded, or the uprights must be attached to the sub frame bolted and welded. Uni-body cars must also have a bar running horizontally between the rear uprights at floor level. Minimum 3” clearance recommended between drivers helmet and overhead roll bars. All welds must be electric or mig welded. No pipe fittings allowed. No heating of tubing to form bends. All joints must have gussets. All welds must be 360 degrees.
    2i.   RACING SEAT BELTS/HARNESS:  5 point harness is mandatory. Minimum 3” five point harness with SFI 16.1 rating is mandatory. Seat and belts must be securely mounted to roll cage. All mount bolts must use self-locking nuts or be double nutted. Mount bolts should be grade 8 or better and should match the hole size of the belt anchor. Ensure that belts are not pinched when mounting them. Belts shall be mounted so they are clear of sharp edges. Belts shall be mounted so that the belt anchors are in line with the direction of pull. Belts must be in good condition.
    2j.   SAFETY HELMET:  A Snell approved racing safety helmet must be worn in all practice and race events and until car is parked in pit area. Minimum Snell M95 or newer.
    2k.  WINDSHEILD & WINDOWS:  All windows must be removed except full front windshield. Windshield must be safety glass, Lexan or heavy gage wire mesh. If Lexan or wire mesh is used, two safety bars must be installed. If the windshield mounding is removed, four windshield-retaining clips must be installed. Driver's window net with quick release is mandatory.
  3. DRIVERS:  All drivers must be registered at the Pit Shack so we know who is in what car.
  4. COMMUNICATION:  Electronic means of communication is allowed between the lead and last car only.
  5. JOINING OF CARS:  All three cars must be joined together by chain leaving no more than 3 feet between each car.  
  6. MIRRORS:  Only one mirror allowed per car and it must be securely mounted in the car.
  7. QUALIFIED CARS:  Teams my not borrow any lead car, and their lead car must race in the feature, or scratch it for the night. Second and third cars can be replaced with properly prepared cars throughout the race event. You cannot use another completely new set of trains.
  8. TIRES:  Tires side to side on lead car can be different up to 2 sizes. Front to back can be different up to two sizes. Tires must be stock passenger 65 70 or 75 series only. Middle and back car may run whatever configuration as long as they are no more than two tire sizes different, but must be of the same rim size all around. No donut tires allowed (spare, or dumby tires). All cars will be allowed a maximum camber on right front wheel of 1-3/8” off of level as measured at the bottom and top of the rim.
  9. BLACK FLAG:  Any black flags received in the feature will be max 25 points.

 

NOTE: The interpretation of rules will be solely up to judgment of the officials in charge. Official’s decision will be final. Any part of car not specifically covered must remain stock. Stock parts of those found in model/year O.E.M. parts book.

“The rules and/or specifications set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. By making application for a competitor permit, it is deemed that the competitor agrees to become familiar with these regulations and abide by the directions set forth and prescribed by Varney Speedway Motorplex. No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of, or compliance with these rules and/or specifications. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guaranty against injury or death to participants, spectators, or others”.
