Track News - Updated March 5 2011

Attention Drivers and Teams there have been some slight rule changes and clean up of other rules over the last week.

All classes please see General Rule 25 one way radios are now required in all classes.  Most of you received free ones a couple years back from the Woman On Wheels fund, dig them up as Head Starter I look forward to talking to you to advise you of line up, mechanical black flags, and oh BLACK FLAGS!

This rule now replaces the following rules:

APM # 30, LLM # 28, SSS # 38, SS # 38 & S4 rule 36.

All Pro Mods:  Take note of General Rule 25 you are now allowed 2 way radios if you wish.

Also for Street Stocks, Supers, Varney Late Models and All Pros the minimum 8 car rule has been clarified as 8 cars starting the NIGHT not just the feature.

TIRE RULE:  We have been in contact with our tire supplier and in order to insure we have the tires you want for your car all year I am asking each driver to e-mail me with the sizes they need ( gmvms@xplornet.ca ) by knowing the sizes you need I can advise the supplier so that they can have them on hand for us.  Many teams have complained over the years that we didn’t stock the tries they needed or have them in stock when needed here is your chance to insure we do, the sooner I get this information the sooner our supplier can place their order.  Although this does not guarantee we will have them it is a step in the right direction and I will make every effort to hold tires for the drivers who get me their information all others will be first come first served.

CEMENT PADS:  Pads are now available on a first come first serve bases, please see the form here on the web site.  Pads can be paid for on a yearly bases which will be much cheaper than the NIGHTLY fee which will be applied this season.

Camping:  There we be NO OVER NIGHT CAMPING IN THE PITS starting this season all overnight camping must be done in the area set up by the track.  Also on this note given an incident which took place last season with a fan in the parking lot we have been advised by the OPP that they will be doing drive thru of the parking lot and pits this coming season on race nights.

As always should anyone have any questions or concerns or ideas please feel free to email them to me at gmvms@xplornet.ca

Thanks for your time, be sure to check back often for more updates!

New Head Starter At Varney

Ken & Joan McLellan owners of Varney Motor Speedway have been advised by long time Head Starter Joe Watson that he has decided to step down from his stand.  Ken and Joan and all the staff and racers at Varney would like to thank Joe for all that he has done for the track and wish Joe a very happy retirement.

Given the timing of this change it has been decided that I will also assume the Head Starters job for the 2011 race season.

New General Manager For Varney Speedway

Ken and Joan McLellan owners of Varney Motor Speedway wish to announce the hiring of Doug Townsend as the new General Manager of Varney Motor Speedway effective immediately.

Doug is no stranger to Varney Motor Speedway having worked in most every role at the speedway over the past 10 years, and most recently as Track Promoter in 2009 before deciding to step down for the 2010 season.

In Doug’s new role he will oversee the overall operation of the speedway and have final say in all issues at the track allowing Ken and Joan to enjoy some more time watching the races instead of working.

Management TEAM In Place At Varney

Running a Speedway is not a one person job and for that reason I have put together a core group of employees to help deal with some of the decision making along the way.  This working group has been active now for close to a month and we will be able to release a tentative 2011 schedule along with the rule packages for 2011 within the next week.  We have made some bold changes for 2011 in the look and feel of some of  the racing aspects at Varney and I look forward to sharing those with you over the next few weeks, so check back often for updates!

The management group consists of Steve Arndt – Race Director, Steve Greguol – Track Promoter, Shirley Person – Head Scorer, Jody Buschlen – Announcer, Bill Clarke – Tech.

Should you have any questions concerns ideas or feedback we would love to hear from you, feel free to contact any of the management group or email me directly at gmvms@xplornet.ca
