2008 SUPER STREET STOCK RULES

1. BODY STYLE: Open to any make or model of North American built two or four door sedan or hatchback, which came with a V-8 engine.

2. BODY AND APPEARANCE: Race cars participating in racing events must be complete and presentable in appearance at the beginning of each race event. Body must be straight, sound, stock appearing and in stock position on frame. The Technical Committee may reject cars that are considered improperly prepared. Stock rubber body mounts may be removed with no other lowering or repositioning of any body parts allowed. Stock steel bodies only with no aluminum body panels. All chrome, mouldings, ornaments, door handles, glass and plastic components must be removed except grille and windshield. No functioning hood scoops or cowl induction hoods. Original rear wheel arches must be retained from center of rear end forward. Inner trunk, door panels and hood bracing may be removed. All door handles, taillights and headlight openings must be covered over with steel or aluminum panels. No sharp edges. On hatchback models, the rear deck/hatch lid must remain (except glass). A rear spoiler of 5” maximum height and maximum width of trunk deck is allowed. All rear spoilers must follow the contour of the rear deck lid, and must not extend out from the rear bumper cover. Absolutely no bars shall extend outside the body panels including the grill and bumpers with the exception of side scrub rails. Wheels must not extend outside of body or scrub rails.

3. BATTERY: Must be securely anchored. If battery is inside driver compartment, it must be in a spill proof container with quick access. Battery must be mounted between the frame rails and no lower than the rear axle tubes (with the driver in the car). A battery disconnect switch is recommended and should be located behind the race seat in the driver's window or in the centre of the dash.

4. BRAKES: Stock four-wheel hydraulic brakes in good working condition are compulsory and are subject to test and inspection. Pedal must be in original position. Adjustable proportioning valve allowed with means of adjustment while racing.

 5. BUMPERS: Bumpers are required and must be present and secure at the start of each heat and feature race. Bumpers must be mounted in stock position/height and securely fastened with no sharp edges exposed. Safety chains recommended. Plastic/rubber bumper covers may be used. Aluminum bumpers allowed. Any passenger car or light truck/van bumper, excluding step bumpers, may be used. Bumper may be adjusted to fit car and must not exceed the width of the car.

6. CARBURETOR: One factory stock 2 barrel for that year/model with 2 return springs, or a 4412-500 CFM Holley factory produced 2 barrel carb may be used. The only changes allowed are jets and power valve and removal of choke parts. Maximum 1” spacer . Must use air cleaner with 4” max filter element height , can use air box . No air induction. Rearward extention of air box can not extend past center of distributor. No ram air intakes.

 7. CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION: All chassis and suspension parts are to be stock with no modifying of parts, except as noted here. Only springs or sway bar may be changed or adjusted. On cars equipped with leaf springs, stock shackles may be replaced with longer multi-position shackles. May also use load bolts on rear shackle. Wheel base must be within ½” from side to side and within ½” of the manufacturer's specified wheel base. May run rear load bolts on stock type spring, (maximum 2 load bolts) with minimal alterations to frame and suspension. may use tube type upper control arms 1” different length max must be in stock location.

 8. DOORS: Must be securely bolted or welded closed. Doors must not be cut down.

9. DRIVE LINE: Must have steel 360 degree retaining hoops 1/4”x 2” positioned at the front and rear of the drive shaft within 6” of each universal joint. No chain retaining hoops. No aluminum drive shafts. Drive shafts must be painted white. No accessories may be driven off of or attached to drive line.

10. ENGINE: Must be stock for that make and model of car. Chevy and Ford must use stock two-barrel carburetor cylinder heads. Block and heads must coincide with OEM specs. Minimum 74cc combustion chamber for 350 or 327. 305 heads allowed on 305 CID engines only. Maximum over bore of .030” +.010” for cleanup. Pistons – Any replacement forged or cast piston allowed. No dome top pistons. No reworked pistons permitted. Any lift and duration hydraulic cam allowed. No roller cams or roller parts allowed. Stock rockers or 1.6:1 ratio stock type rockers are allowed. On GM maximum intake valve size is 1.94” and maximum exhaust valve size is 1.5”. Maximum size engine 360 CID. Minimum  piston to block deck height .020”. Push rod guide plates allowed. No reworking of intake and exhaust manifolds or intake and exhaust runners. Racing oil pan allowed. . If an oil overflow can is used, it must be metal. All nonessential plastic and flammable components must be removed from the engine compartment. Varney Motor Speedway may use an engine whistler and volume pump to ensure compliance of these engine rules. Must  be  9:1  compression  ratio. Chevy eng may use pioneer performance harmonic balancer#872021

11. ENGINE LOCATION: ENGINE LOCATION: Engine must be located so center of front most spark plug is centre of or ahead of upper ball joints line and centered in the frame. Solid or Stock type motor mounts.

12. ENGINE TEAR DOWN: Varney Motor Speedway reserves the right to one free tear down during the current racing season. If engine is found to be illegal, Varney Motor Speedway will get another free tear down later. Only a competing driver of the Super Street Stock division of that event has the right to fill out a protest form to have an engine torn-down for the sum of $150.00. The driver putting up the $150.00 must remain at the track until the tear-down has been completed, which must be started within one hour of the completion of the Feature Race. If the engine is found illegal $75.00 will be returned to the person who made the protest, and Track management will assess the penalties. If the engine is found legal, $75.00 will go to the driver being protested. Cash must be presented to Track management before the start of the Feature Race. A cam check is not considered to be a tear down. Penalties may include confiscating illegal parts and loss of 100 points and money. Refusal of tear down will result in disqualification and penalties as assessed by Track management.

13. EXHAUST SYSTEM: Must exit under and behind driver and outside sheet metal. Stock exhaust manifolds may be used or 1 5/8” down draft headers with a maximum 2 ½” outlet (maximum 6” long step-down to 2 ¼”). The maximum O.D. of the exhaust tubing to be used is 2-1/4” (+.030”) round. Pipes must be firmly mounted and exit within area ahead of the front of the right rear tire. Pipes must be cut flush to the body with no sharp or ragged edges. No cross over’s or collector boxes. Must have  Flo Pro FP214 mufflers or Dynamax or approved off set  muffler with baffles by track tech.

 14. FIRE SAFETY/CONTROL: Cars must have a minimum 2 lb fire extinguisher mounted in a secure mounting bracket and within driver's reach with seat belts fastened. Fire extinguisher must have a gauge and if the extinguisher is older than three years, it must have a recharge slip dated within two years. Stock hood and truck latches must be removed and replaced with quick entry hold-downs. All unnecessary flammables must be removed from the car. No plastic oil pressure lines. Car will not be permitted to race with fuel leaks. All oil leaks are to be dealt with promptly.    

Race Apparel: A driver's racing suit with a rating of SFI 3.2A/1 or better is mandatory. Nomex underwear, socks and balaclava recommended. Gloves are mandatory with a recommended rating of SFI 3.3/1 or better but leather or “Mechanics” gloves will be accepted. Race shoes with a rating of SFI 3.3/5 or better are recommended. No nylon or plastic shoes allowed. A neck collar/helmet support with a rating of SFI 3.3 or better is highly recommended. All race apparel must be in good, clean condition. If Nomex underwear is not used then any garments worn under the race suit should be cotton (no polyester shirts or pants allowed).

15. FIRE WALLS AND FLOORS: Original front and rear fire walls and floor with all holes must be covered with minimum 22 gauge sheet metal either welded or riveted in place. OR floor and rear firewall may be removed and replaced with minimum 22 gauge steel in stock position as follows: Construct new driver's floor pan to the left of the drive shaft with the floor pan connected to the original front firewall and running to behind the driver's seat. Floor behind driver's seat may rise vertically to a point where it can then extend horizontally to the rear window deck, which then forms the rear firewall. Floor at the right side of the driver's seat may rise vertically a maximum of 10” from the depressed driver's seat, and then slope on an angle upwards to the right side window connecting to the original firewall at the front and the new rear firewall at the rear. If the original tunnel is reworked then heavy mud flaps or conveyer belt material must be attached with bolts and washers to the underside of the new tunnel to protect the driver.  No metal screws allowed. All holes in fire walls must be sealed with 22 gauge steel. Small holes in fire walls may be sealed with high temp flame resistant silicone.

16. FRAME: Stock steel frame must be stock, with no holes drilled for lightning purposes. On unibody cars front and rear frame sections must be joined for added strength. On all cars the rear frame rails may be fabricated from maximum 1/8” thick steel from in front of the wheel arch back. Must retain stock wheel  base. , but original  mount positions must be maintained. X bracing of frame will be allowed.

17. FUEL: Cars may use street legal unleaded gas with no additives allowed or you may use the racing fuel available at the track with no additives. No NOS allowed. Leaded fuel will be allowed.

18. FUEL PUMP/LINES: Mechanical pump only, absolutely no electric fuel pumps. Neoprene or steel gas line must be securely fastened under floor or inside steel conduit. Steel or high pressure neoprene fuel injection lines only on the pressure side of the fuel pump (steel fuel filter allowed). No glass or plastic fuel filters.

19. FUEL CELL: An approved fuel cell with a recommended rating of SFI 28.1 is mandatory. Plastic fuel cells must be encased in a minimum 22 gauge steel box. The fuel cell must be securely mounted in trunk compartment between the frame rails (no notching of rails allowed). The bottom of the steel box enclosing the fuel cell must be mounted no lower than any portion of the rear axle tube with the driver in the car. The fuel cell must be secured with steel straps. Two steel hoops under the fuel cell are recommended to protect the cell. Fuel cell should also have rear hoop bar for protection. Hatch back models require a latching accessible fuel compartment/firewall to be constructed of minimum 22 gauge steel to house tank. The trunk/fuel compartment must be a minimum of twice the size of the fuel cell. Fuel must not leak from fuel cell if car is over turned. Fuel cell cap must seal and vent lines must have a check valve. Fuel cell cap must be tethered to the car. Fuel cell filler neck must be grounded to the car.

 20. IGNITION: Stock single point distributor or stock electronic ignition allowed. Stock coil and ignition parts only. Charging and starting system must be operating. All cars must have two ignition kill switches one on each side and accessible from outside. Kill switch must be painted red and clearly marked ON and OFF.

 21. INTERIOR: All interior of car that is flammable (plastic and fabric) must be removed.

 22. MIRRORS: a 2” convex mirror on drivers side will be allowed

 23. PAINT AND LETTERING: All cars must be neatly and brightly painted. Numbers assigned by the Track must be clearly legible on both sides of the car and on the roof. The minimum size of the numbers is 24” high and 2” wide. Numbers to be read from right side in a color offering distinct contrast to the color of the car. No foil numbers. No trick numbers. All cars must have their number and class in white (minimum 6” high) on upper right hand corner of the windshield for line-up and identification purposes.

 24. RACE SEAT: An aluminum or steel racing seat must be used, bolted or welded to roll cage, between roll cage and left front frame rail. All welds must be electric or mig and will be subject to the approval of the Tech Inspectors. Seat must be positioned completely to the left of the centerline of the car. A solid head rest incorporated into the seat is mandatory. The head rest must be padded with a shock absorbing material.

 25. RACING BELTS/HARNESS: Racing belts/harness are mandatory. Minimum 3” four point harness with one lap belt set and two shoulder belts. Five or six point harness including sub belt with SFI 16.1 rating is recommended. Shoulder belts must be securely mounted to the roll cage. Lap and crotch belts must be mounted to the roll cage or seat mount. All mount bolts must be use self-locking nuts or be double nutted. Mount bolts should be grade 8 or better and should match the hole size of the belt anchor. Ensure that belts are not pinched when mounting them. Belts shall be mounted so that they are clear of sharp edges. Belts shall be mounted so that the belt anchors are in line with the direction of pull. Seat belts must be dated within the past five years (at the start of the race season) and in good condition.

 26. RADIATOR: Stock rads or aluminum race rads which resemble the stock rad may be used and must be in stock location. A 1 gallon or 4 litre metal over flow can must be securely mounted ahead of the engine firewall and under the hood. Antifreeze is not allowed. An electric fan securely mounted in front of the rad may be used in addition to the stock fan, .or an electric fan may be used in back of rad  instead of stock fan. A fan shroud or fan deflector shield must be used.

 27. REAR END: Welded stock rear end is allowed. Must be in stock location. Ford rear ends allowed with four point mount. Floater rear ends allowed.

 28. RIDE HEIGHT:  Body and frame must be minimum 6” (1/8” tolerance) from the track at lowest point with driver out of  the car, this includes any ground effect skirting. Ride height will be measured with the wheels in the straight forward position and the left front wheel on the marked spot on the tech pad. Drivers will be allowed one lift by a crew member when checking ride height.

29. ROLL CAGE: Cage must be constructed of 1-3/4” minimum outside diameter by .095” wall thickness round steel tubing. Four points cage compulsory. Base of uprights must be welded to frame of car. On a unibody car the roll cage must be welded to 12” X 12” X 3/16” steel plates that are formed and welded to floor pan. Unibody cars must have a bar running horizontally between the rear uprights at floor level. Cage must be braced to the rear frame kick-up and diagonally between the rear uprights. A transfer bar between the rear diagonal and front frame optional. A horizontal bar running between the two front uprights at the dash level is mandatory. A minimum of four horizontal bars must be inside the left side door and three bars inside the right door and a minimum of two vertical upright bars between each horizontal bar. Each horizontal door bar must attach to a front and a rear upright. Minimum 40” length by 17” high, 16 gauge metal between door bars and body skin on driver's side is mandatory. A center overhead bar running before and after between transverse members is compulsory. A vertical bar between the halo bar and the centre of the dash level horizontal bar is recommended. No pipe fittings allowed. Left leg protection bar must be installed. A securely mounted front and rear hoop may be used. Front and rear hoop may not be wider than the frame rails at any point in front of the front wheels or behind the rear wheels. All cage joints should be gusseted. All joints must be securely welded. Roll bars in driver's area must be padded with foam rubber with a recommended rating of SFI 45.1 or better. No heavy knerf bars in trunk or engine compartment. All cars must have a chain or cable in the front and rear of the car to be able to pick the car up with the tow vehicle.

30. SAFETY HELMET:  A well fitting Snell M2000 or newer safety helmet in good condition must be worn in all practice and race events and until car is parked in pit area.

 31. SCRUB RAILS: If scrub rails are used they must be no further forward than the back of the front wheel openings, be a maximum 1” thick by 2” wide and welded or bolted to roll cage or rear hoop. Scrub rails must be secured to the car within 6” of each end and must be tight to the body. When bolting scrub rails to the car, either carriage bolts or recessed hex head bolts must be used. Maximum 45 degree cuts on the ends of scrub rails. All hollow scrub rails must have the ends welded closed. All edges of scrub rails must be radius ground.

32. TIRES: Track tires are mandatory, which are available at the Pit Shack at Varney Motor Speedway.

33. TRANSMISSION: Complete, stock 2 or 3 speed automatic transmission only. All gears must be operational. No transmission coolers in driver compartment. Transmission lines must be steel or neoprene transmission line or hydraulic line.

34. WEIGHT: Car weights are with the driver in car. Cars will be teched after racing as they come off the race track with no topping up of fuel. Minimum weight 3100 lbs. Maximum 55% left side. Floaters: Weight penalty - 50 lbs with drum brakes, 100 lbs with disc brakes. All ballast weight must be mounted safely and securely within frame rails and minimum 6” ground clearance. All weights must be labeled with car number and painted white. Added weights must be in block form in no less than 5 lb blocks and must use self-locking nuts or double nuts or drilled and wired ½” or better mounting bolts and nuts. Stock rear ends with disc brakes will have a 50lbs weight penalty.

35. WHEEL CLEARANCE: Trimming of fenders will be allowed if it is neat and there are no sharp edges. Excessive trimming is not allowed.

36. WHEELS: Must be racing rims. Maximum width 8" with any offset. Mag style tape-on wheel weights only, installed on the flat of the rim.

 37. WINDSHIELD AND WINDOWS: All windows must be removed except full front windshield. Windshield must be safety glass or Lexan. If Lexan is used, two safety bars must be installed. Four windshield retaining clips must be installed on all windshields. A solid and secure driver's window net, in good condition, with quick release and a recommended rating of SFI 37.1 is mandatory. Clear lexan window closures may be used with no interference of the kill switches.

NOTE: The interpretation of rules will be solely up to the judgement of the officials in change and the decision of the official will be final. Any part of car not specifically covered must remain stock. Stock parts are those found in model/year O.E.M. parts book.  GENERAL TRACK RULES: “The rules and / or specifications set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. By making application for a competitor permit, it is deemed that the competitor agrees to become familiar with these regulations and abide by the directions set forth and prescribed by Varney Motor Speedway.
