Street Stock Rules 2012

NOTICE TO ALL DRIVERS:
It is intent that Varney Speedway Motorplex trusts each driver to build their car to fit the rules, for the class they are running in. ALL drivers should come to the track with this in mind, and NO driver should take it upon themselves to make their car and then expect the track to change the rules to fit their car. It is also the driver’s sole responsibility to ensure anyone doing any work on their car follows the rules of their class along with any purchased parts going into their car should be checked before hand to ensure they meet our rules.

  1. BODY STYLE:  Open to any make or model of North Americabuilt two or four door sedan, hatchback with a V-8 or V-6. Chevy S10 or Ford Ranger, Dodge Dakota with a V-6 engine installed.
  2. BODY AND APPEARANCE:  Newer style bodies are allowed but must be fabricated back to stock dimensions. Race cars participating in racing events must be complete and presentable in appearance at the beginning of each race event. The body must be straight, sound, stock appearing, in stock position on frame with a stock front fire wall. The Technical Committee may reject cars that are considered improperly prepared. Cars that are considered unsafe to the driver, competitors, staff or fans will be rejected and not allowed on the track. All moldings, ornaments, door handles, glass, and plastic components must be removed, except grill and windshield. Allow side skirts no lower than 1” of ride height. No functioning hood scoops or functioning cowl induction hoods. Original rear wheel arches must be retained. Trunk lid panels and hood panels must remain stock but may have the center portion of framing removed for the purposes of repairing them. A 4” section of framing must remain around the perimeter of both. Roof panels and interior framing must remain stock appearing. Roof height 48 inches measured 10 inches back from center of windshield. Inner door panels must be stock, unless four door bars on driver’s side and three door bars on passenger’s side are used (see ROLL CAGE for details). No aluminum body panels. If door skins or fenders/quarters are replaced with body steel, they must be stock appearing. No shortening or lengthening of cars. Absolutely no bars shall extend outside the body panels including the grill and bumpers with the exception of side scrub rails. Wheels must not extend outside the body panels or scrub rails. All cars must have two 3” towing loops securely fastened to front and rear frames. Stock spoiler or fabricated spoiler allowed. Fabricated spoilers must be max 3” high.
  3. BATTERY:  Must be securely anchored. If battery is inside driver compartment, it must be in a spill proof container with quick access. Battery must be mounted between the frame rails and no lower than the rear axle tubes (with driver in car). A battery disconnect switch is recommended and should be located behind the race seat in the driver’s window or in center of the dash. Must have ‘disconnect’ in colour red.
  4. BRAKES:  Stock four-wheel hydraulic brakes for your make and model in good working condition are compulsory and are subject to test and inspection. Pedal must be in original position. Max 1” thick rotor.
  5. BUMPERS:  Bumpers are required and must be present and secure at the start of each heat and feature race. Bumpers must be mounted in stock position/height and securely fastened with no sharp edges exposed (no tolerance). Only carriage head bumper bolts allowed. Safety chains are recommended. Plastic/rubber bumper covers may be used. Aluminum bumpers allowed. Any passenger car or light truck/van bumper, excluding step bumpers, may be used. Bumper may be adjusted to fit car and must not exceed the width of the car. Open ended bumpers shall have an end cap attached to the bumper and to the body of the car.
  6. CARBURETOR:On factory stock two-barrel carburetor or Holley 4412. GM maximum venture diameter 1.375. Carburetor must be equipped with two return springs. Choke parts and linkage may be removed. Must use stock air cleaner with matching filter element, in stock position. Air cleaner must be fastened with a wing nut for fast removal. No ram air intakes or cowl induction air cleaners. Air horn on air cleaner may be removed to allow maximum opening of no more than 2 ½ x 7 inches. No van, truck or bus air cleaners. Must have an intake manifold vacuum port available for tech.
  7. CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION:  Stock only with no modifying of parts. No devices to raise or lower car or to soften or stiffen suspension. Springs do not have to be stock for the make and model of the car, but must be the same size from side to side. No sway bar adjustment. Body, frame and weights must be minimum 5” from the track at the lowest point with driver in car. Wheel base must be within ½” from side to side and within ½” of the manufacturer’s specified wheel base. Camero spindles allowed. 1” rotors max. On cars with front strut’s you may tie the struts to the front hoop only. No interchanging of the upper or lower control arms between models will be allowed. Tubular upper control arms will be allowed; must be stock dimensions with stock type ball joint and stock location. Lower control arms must be a minimum height of 2.25 inches measured from bottom of frame to top of lower arm. See attachment. All spring pockets must be in stock location on all makes and models.
  8. DOORS:  Must be securely bolted or welded closed. Doors must be cut down.
  9. DRIVE LINE:  Must have steel 360 degree retaining hoops ¼” x 2” positioned at the front and rear of the drive shaft within 6” of each universal joint. No chain retaining hoops. No aluminum drive shafts. Drive shafts must be painted white. No accessories may be driven off of or attached to drive line.
  10. ENGINE:Must be stock and stock for that make and model of car. Chevy and Ford must use stock two-barrel carburetor cylinder heads screw in studs or stud pinning allowed. Stock cast iron two-barrel intake manifold only. Block and heads must coincide with O.E.M specs. Minimum 74cc combustion chamber for 350 or 327. 305 heads allowed on 305 CID engines only. Maximum overbore .030”. Flat top (four eyebrows) or dish pistons only. All eyebrows must be exactly the same size. No small eyebrows. Must be a hydraulic stock duration cam shaft. Stock lift cams only. Chevy 350 stock cam has .260” lift on intake and .273” lift on exhaust measured at the cam (.390”/.410” measured at valve). Maximum .448” lift for Ford. Maximum .412” lift for Chrysler. Must maintain minimum intake manifold vacuum of 19” when measured at 800 rpm. Any car under will have a cam check done; any infractions will result in disqualification. All cars must have a fitting on the intake manifold or carburetor base with which to measure intake manifold vacuum. Stock rockers only. Maximum engine size 360 CID. On GM maximum intake valve size is 1.94” and maximum exhaust valve is 1.5”. Minimum piston to block deck height .020”. No reworking of intake and exhaust manifolds or intake and exhaust runners. If an oil can is used, it must be metal. All nonessential plastic and flammable components must be removed from the engine compartment. Varney Speedway Motorplex may use any equipment necessary to ensure compliance of these engine rules. Chevy engine may use pioneer performance harmonic balancer #872021.V-6 engines will be allowed. No 4 overhead cams. Must supply Varney Speedway Motorplex with a computer for that make and model. 1 plug per cylinder.
  11. ENGINE LOCATION:  Engine must be in stock location and must be mounted with stock motor mounts only.
  12. ENGINE TEAR DOWN:  Varney Speedway Motorplex reserves the right to TWO FREE TEAR DOWNS during the current race season. If the engine is found to be illegal, Varney Speedway Motorplex will get another free tear down later. Refusal of tear down will result in disqualification and penalties as assessed by Varney Speedway Motorplex management. If engine is deemed legal, Varney Speedway Motorplex will supply gasket package for engine.
  13. EXHAUST SYSTEM:  Must exit under and behind driver and outside sheet metal or out right side door below a raised floor (see FIREWALLS & FLOOR). Stock exhaust manifolds only. Maximum 2-1/4” O.D. exhaust pipes. Pipes must be cut flush to the body with no sharp or ragged edges. No exhaust equalizers or collectors. Flo Pro FP214 mufflers or Dynamax or approved muffler with baffles by Tech committee. No straight through muffler.
  14. FIRE SAFETY/CONTROL:  Cars must have a minimum 2lb fire extinguisher mounted in a secure mounting bracket and within driver’s reach with seat belts fastened. Fire extinguisher must have a gauge and if the extinguisher is older than 3 years, it must have a recharge slip dated within 2 years. Stock hood and truck latches must be removed and replaced with quick entry hold downs. All unnecessary flammables must be removed from car. No plastic oil pressure lines. Car will not be permitted to race with fuel leaks. All oil leaks are to be dealt with promptly. Race apparel:A driver’s racing suit with a recommended rating of SFI 3.2A/1 or better is mandatory. Racing suit must be made of Proban or better and have a readable label to prove it. Nomex underwear, socks, and balaclava recommended. Gloves are mandatory with a recommended rating of SFI 3.3/1 or better but leather or ‘Mechanix’ gloves will be accepted.Race shoes with a rating of SFI 3.3/5 or better are recommended. No nylon or plastic shoes allowed. A neck collar/helmet support with a rating of SFI 3.3 or better is mandatory. All race apparel must be in good, clean condition. If Nomex underwear is not used then any garments worn under race suit should be cotton (no polyester shirts or pants allowed).
  15. FIREWALLS & FLOOR:  Original front and rear firewalls must be maintained. All holes must be covered with a minimum 22 gauge sheet metal either welded or riveted in place. Small holes in firewalls may be sealed with high temperature flame resistant silicone. No metal screws allowed. The right side floor pan may be raised 10” to allow installation of exhaust.
  16. FRAME:  Stock front clip to firewall and rear wheel arches must remain stock. Mid section and rear frame rails may be fabricated from maximum 1/8” steel. Original shackle mount positions must be maintained on cars with leaf springs. ‘X’ bracing of frame allowed. On uni-body cars, front and rear frame sections should be joined for added strength.
  17. FUEL:  Cars may use street legal unleaded gas with no additives allowed. No NOS allowed.
  18. FUEL PUMP/LINES:  Stock mechanical fuel pump or electric fuel pump. Electric fuel pumps must connected to ignition kill switch on both sides of dash. No aftermarket fuel pumps allowed. Neoprene or steel gas line must be securely fastened under floor or inside conduit. Steel or high pressure neoprene fuel injection lines only on the pressure side of the fuel pump (steel fuel filter allowed). No glass or plastic fuel filters.
  19. FUEL TANK/CELL:An approved fuel cell with a rating of SFI 28.1 is mandatory. The trunk floor hump above the rear axle and the inner fender portion beside the axle hump may not be removed. If the trunk floor is removed, plastic fuel cells must be encased in a minimum 22 gauge steel box. The fuel tank/cell must be securely mounted in the trunk compartment between the frame rails (no notching of rails allowed). Hatch back models require a latching accessible fuel compartment/firewall to be constructed of minimum 22 gauge steel to house fuel tank/cell. The trunk/fuel compartment must be a minimum of twice the size of the fuel tank/cell. The bottom of the steel box enclosing the fuel cell must be mounted no lower than any portion of the rear axle tubes with the driver in the car. Two steel hoops under the fuel cell are mandatory to protect the cell. Fuel tank must have rear hoop bar that hangs to the lowest point of fuel cell connected from the left rear to the right rear frame rails for protection. Fuel must not leak from fuel tank/cell if car is over turned. Fuel tank/cell cap must seal and vent lines must have a check valve. Fuel cap must be tethered to the car. Fuel cell filler neck must be grounded to the car.
  20. IGNITION:  Stock single point distributor or stock electronic ignition allowed. Stock coils only. Charging and starting systems must be operating. Car must be self-starting and have two kill ignition switches on either side of the car that are accessible from the outside by the safety crew. Kill switches must be painted red and clearly marked ON and OFF.
  21. INTERIOR:  All flammable material must be removed except stock dash (dash optional).
  22. MIRRORS:Only one mirror allowed. Mounted at top center of windshield. Maximum size is 10 ½” x 3”.
  23. PAINT & LETTERING:  All cars must be neatly and brightly painted. Numbers assigned by Varney Speedway Motorplex must be clearly legible on both sides of the car and on the roof. The minimum size of the numbers is 24” high and 2” wide. Numbers to be read from right side in a colour offering distinct contrast to the colour of the car. No foil numbers. No trick numbers. All cars must have their number and class in white (minimum 6” high) on upper right hand corner of the windshield for line-up and identification purposes.
  24. RACE SEAT:  An aluminum race seat with headrest in mandatory. The headrest must be padded with shock absorbing material. Seat must be securely mounted to the roll cage and positioned completely to the left of the centerline of the car.
  25. RACE BELTS/HARNESS:Racing belts/harness are mandatory. Minimum 3” five point harness with SFI 16.1 rating dated within the last 5 years (at beginning of race season) is mandatory. Seat and belts must be securely mounted to roll cage. All mount bolts must use self-locking nuts or be double nutted. Mount bolts should be grade 8 or better and should match the hole size of the belt anchor. Ensure that belts are not pinched when mounting them. Belts shall be mounted so they are clear of sharp edges. Belts shall be mounted so that the belt anchors are in line with the direction of pull.
  26. RADIATOR:  Stock rads or aluminum race rads which resemble the stock rad may be used and must be in stock location. A 1 gallon or 4 litre metal over flow can must be securely mounted ahead of the engine firewall and under the hood. Antifreeze is not allowed. An electric fan securely mounted in front of the rad may be used in addition to the stock fan. A fan shroud or fan deflector must be used.
  27. REAR END:Stock rear end as factory listed for the car used. Stock gears only. No aftermarket gearing. Must use stock rear ends as original for car being used. No special rear ends. Rear ends can be locked. Stock replacement trailing arms on metric cars; part numbers CE-100-195 and CE-100-10 will be allowed.
  28. RIDE HEIGHT:  Body and frame must be minimum of 5” (0 tolerance) from the track at lowest point with driver in car. Ride height will be measured with the wheels in the straight forward position and the left front wheel on the marked spot on the tech pad. Drivers will be allowed one lift by a crew member when checking ride height.
  29. ROLL CAGE:  Full roll cage with minimum three door bars on driver’s side and two door bars on passenger side is mandatory. Each horizontal door bar must attach to a front and rear upright. A minimum of two uprights are required between each door bar. Main cage must be constructed of minimum 1-3/4” O.D. .095”wall tubing. Door bars and door bar uprights must be a minimum 1-1/2” O.D. .095” wall tubing. If the inner door panel is removed on driver’s side, then a minimum of four door bars, extending into the door, must be used. If the inner door panel is removed on passenger’s side,then a minimum of three door bars, extending into the door, must be used. Uni-body cars must have a 12” x 12” x 3/16” plate under the uprights must be bolted and welded, or the uprights must be attached to the sub frame bolted and welded. A horizontal bar running between the two front uprights at the dash level is mandatory. Uni-body cars must have a bar running horizontally between the rear uprights at floor level. A 40” long by 17” high, 16 gauge metal plate; between the door bars and body skin on driver’s side is recommended. A center overhead bar running before and after; between the halo bar and the main roll bar is recommended. A vertical bar between the halo bar and the centre of the dash level horizontal bar is recommended. If a front or back hoop is used, it must be installed in such a way as to ensure it will not entrap or injure the driver if it moves. Front and rear hoop may not be wider than the frame rails. Minimum 3” clearance recommended between the drivers helmet and overhead roll bars. All joints must be completely welded (360 degrees) with an electric or mig welder. All main cage joints must have minimum .125” thick gussets. If door bars are less than 1-3/4” O.D. tubing, then all joints require gussets. No pipe fittings allowed. No heating of tubing to form bends. Scrub rails are not counted as door bars. Roll bars in driver’s area must be padded with foam rubber with a recommended rating of SFI 45.1 or better.
  30. SAFETY HELMET:A well fitting Snell SA2000, SA2005 or newer safety helmet with a Snell SA rating in good condition. Must be worn in all practise and race events and until car is parked in pit area.
  31. SCRUB RAILS:  If scrub rails are used they must be no further forward then the back of the front wheel openings, be a maximum 1” thick by 2” wide and welded or bolted to roll cage or rear hoop. Scrub rails must be secured to the car within 6”of each end and must be tight to the body. When bolting scrub rails to the car, either carriage bolts or recessed hex head bolts must be used. Maximum 45 degree cuts on the ends of scrub rails. All hollow scrub rails must have the ends welded closed. All edges of scrub rails must be radius ground.
  32. TIRES:D.O.T. approved radial tires with maximum size of 235R60/65/70/75/80; R15” series tires only or NEW Hoosier 790 treaded race tires. No recaps. No light truck, no snow tires. All tires are subject to approval by Tech Committee. No tire or tread cutting or shaving allowed. 14” and 15” tires may be mixed. No chemicals to soften the tire allowed. Drivers will be allowed 1 new tire every 2 race nights.
  33. TRANSMISSION:  Complete, stock automatic transmission only. All gears must be operational. Must have a minimum 11” torque converter. No transmission coolers in driver compartment. Transmission lines must be steel or neoprene transmission line or hydraulic line. No 2 speed power glides and no high stall torque converters.
  34. WEIGHT:  Car weights are with the driver in car. Cars will be teched after racing as they come off race track with no topping up of fuel. Minimum weight 3100lbs with 4 street tires. 3300lbs on Hoosier 790 treaded race tires. Maximum 55% left side. On V-6 cars, 2900lbs with 4 street tires. 3100lbs on Hoosier 790 treaded race tires. All ballast weight must be mounted safely and securely within frame rails and minimum 5” ground clearance. All weights must be labelled with car number and painted white. Added weights should be in block form in no less than 5lb blocks and must use self locking nuts or double nuts or drilled and wired ½” or better mounting bolts and nuts.
  35. WHEEL CLEARANCE:  Trimming of fenders will be allowed if it is neat and there are no sharp edges. Excessive trimming is not allowed.
  36. WHEELS:  Right front rim must be racing or rally wheel. Maximum width of 7” (bead to bead). No aluminum alloy, magnesium, homemade or offset wheels allowed. No wheel weights allowed. Minimum back space on rim as measured from the outer lip of the rim to the flat of the bolting surface is 3”. No spacers allowed. All wheel nuts and wheel studs must be in place at the start of each race event. A loss of a wheel, due to lack of maintenance, will result in disqualification for that race night.
  37. WINDSHEILD & WINDOWS:  All windows must be removed except for full front windshield. Windshield must be safety glass or Lexan. If Lexan is used, two safety bars must be installed in the middle of the windshield from dash to roof, a minimum of 6” apart. Four windshield retaining clips must be installed on all windshields. A solid and secure driver’s window net with quick release and a recommended rating of SFI 37.1 is mandatory.
  38. RADIOS:  There are no radios allowed.

NOTE: The interpretation of rules will be solely up to judgment of the officials in charge. Official’s decision will be final. Any part of car not specifically covered must remain stock. Stock parts of those found in model/year O.E.M. parts book.
GENERAL TRACK RULES:
“The rules and/or specifications set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events. By making application for a competitor permit, it is deemed that the competitor agrees to become familiar with these regulations and abide by the directions set forth and prescribed by Varney Speedway Motorplex. No express or implied warranty of safety shall result from publication of, or compliance with these rules and/or specifications. They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guaranty against injury or death to participants, spectators, or others”.
