1) AGE REQUIREMENTS
(A) Minimum racing age for the Sr. Mini Trucks division is 16years or 14 years with min.of 2 years racing experience
RACER WHO TURN 16 YEARS OF AGE DURING THE CURRENT RACE SEASON MUST RACE IN SR. DIVISION.
(B)Minimum racing age for the Jr. Mini Truck division is 9 years.
RACER WHO TURN 9 YEARS OF AGE DURING THE CALENDER YEAR OF THE CURRENT RACE SEASON MAY BEGIN TO RACE IN THE JR DIVISION. MAXIMUM AGE FOR THE JR. MINI TRUCK DIVISION IS THROUGH TO 15 YEARS OF AGE. ONCE A DRIVER TURNS 16 YEARS OF AGE HE/SHE MUST RACE IN THE SR. DIVISION.
(C) Once a driver moves into the Senior Mini Truck division he/she will not be able to move back down.
(D) It is the responsibility of the driver and crew to read all rules and regulations in this book to comply with them Any questions should be asked prior to race meet.
2) (A) No drinking of any alcoholic beverages or use of drugs will be allowed in the pit area before, or during racing events. Any person with signs of alcohol or drugs about him/her will be removed from the pit area and he/she will not be allowed to entre pit area or racing events at the speedway for the balance of the season.
(B) Tech director of Mini Trucks, senior and junior, has the right to change, alter or add any or rules at any time and without prior notice.
3) (A) Any Jr. or Sr. Mini Truck found to be running illegal motor or suspension or chassis part, or any part there of at any time will result in loss of points and money for that event. You will loose illegal parts.
(B) Any Jr. or Sr. Mini Truck found to be running outside of the rules during heats or feature races will result in loss of points and money for that event.
(C) Drivers are responsible for the sportsmanlike conduct of anyone in their crew and penalties incurred by a crew member may affect the driver.
4) All drivers shall act like a gentleman at the track and see to it that their crew members do likewise. No driver, car owner or mechanic shall subject any track official to abuse, ridicule or improper use of language at the track at any time. Anyone not conducting themselves in a gentlemanly manner may have their car suspended for the balance of the race meet, lose all points and /or money accumulated for the night and may be subject to a monetary fine.
5) Anyone who by word or deed, disrupts, impedes, jeopardizes or in any manner hinders the smooth and orderly presentation of the racing program, and /or anyone who commits or causes to be committed, any action detrimental to the racing program at the speedway shall be held completely responsible for their actions and will be held personally responsible for any losses occurred by the speedway. Also, a lifetime suspension could be levied against the offenders.
6) (A)Fighting or acts detrimental to racing: Any driver, truck owner, crew member or anyone engaged in a fight shall be subject to a suspension and/or bond and can lose all points and money accumulated by the car they are associated with, for that racing meet.
(B) Drivers MUST be held responsible for the control and actions of their pit crew members.Unacceptable actions of crew members may subject the driver to penalty, disqualification from an event of suspension of membership privileges.
7) Any driver, truck owner, or crew member assaulting or verbally assaulting any speedway official at any time whether prior to, during or after the race meet can be suspended for one calender year.
8) (A) Only registered drivers will be eligible for points and/or full money and awards.
(B) To be eligible for any points fund money and/or contingency prized you must
I) be present, or have a representative present at the year-end banquet and
ii) competed in all race events
(C) Competitors must be present at the banquet or a representative to accept their awards.Failure to appear will result in loss of prized and monies.
10) Any driver caught driving a truck in a manner detrimental to the safety of other persons in the pit area shall be suspended.
11) Any truck, which appears to be poorly driven, uncontrollable and/or unable to obtain speed, will start in the scratch position until the starter or race officials fells an acceptable performance has been reached.
12) Driver meeting are mandatory. Failing to attend may result in suspension. Drivers meeting will be attended by drivers and drivers reps only. Jr. Mini Trucks will be allowed to have one representative with them. (owner or crew)
13) QUALIFIED TRUCKS
A) The truck that you qualified for the race meet is the truck you must race in the feature.
B) No Substitute trucks allowed for that race event.
C) All points will got the truck and driver.
14) INSPECTIONS;
A) All trucks must go through a pre-tech inspection before going onto the race track. Those
found not to rules will not be allowed on track until repaired and inspected.
B) During tech inspection, only driver and 1 crew member are allowed.
C) Top 3 trucks plus any other trucks at discretion of tech department can be inspected at any time.
15) PROTESTS
A) Protest an engine for the sum of $500.00 up front at tech department.
16) The driver is responsible for his/her crew. It is our goal to run a safe, competitive race with as few problems as possible. If you, the competitor, bear this in mind and co-operate with us, we can have an excellent show!
17) DRIVER SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
The driver shall wear full protective racing apparel. The following three items are mandatory: 1. Helmut must be current Snell Foundation testing standard Snell 2000 must have protective eye shield or approved goggles.
2. Proban/Nomex single layer driving suit one or two piece.
3. Safety approved neck collar.
4. Highly recommended: Arm restraints must be connected to your 5-point harness buckle not the steering shaft.
Only Nomex gloves will be allowed.
The tech director reserves the right to disallow any safety equipment that is questionable in nature.
18) Black Flag:
Pull to the pit area immediately! Your car is possibly dangerous.If you have received the black flag because of mechanical problems in the feature race, you will receive points and money for your finishing position. If you black flag is given because of some rule infraction you will be disqualified from the race. Starter's decision is final! Failure to obey this flag will result in a suspension for the balance of the race meet. Disobeying the flag, you can be suspended. Black flag will be given for two consecutive laps or at starter's discretion. You can receive the black flag for the following rule infractions:passing pole position truck either on original start or re-start, rough driving, blocking, bumping, or any act detrimental to the rules and/or the speedway.
19) No radios or electronic means of two way communication will be allowed in trucks.
20) No on board computer systems allowed. Tachometers are allowed.
21) The Tech department reserves the right to check any truck at any time for compliance to any and all rules as outlined in this rule book and without prior notice given.
22) Any new technology in the market place available to all classes competing but not necessarily covered in this rule book, must be brought to the attention of the Tech department before it is allowed to be used. Failure to do so could result in disqualification
before or after a race and confiscation of the part.
23) Any truck in violation of any specifications, Tech department reserves the right to impound the component or that portion of the truck that is in question for further examination.
24) Any driver or crew member with concerns will not attempt to talk to any track official during or after races. Any driver or crew member that does voice his/her opinion (this includes hand gestures) to track official will be subject to loss of points for the night, points for the year, or suspension from further or future racing events.
25) Drivers that wish to voice their concerns can do so with their driver representative, who in turn will speak with track officials.
26) ROOKIES
A) All rookie driver must start at the back of the feature and heat races and must have yellow tape on their trucks stating that they are a rookie driver. These drivers will start in regular Position when driver representatives feel they are ready or for a maximum of four race events.
27) Any truck that misses two consecutive race events will start in scratch position in both the heat and feature events upon their return.
DRIVER REPRESENTATIVE
The driver representative are there for the benefit of the racer and to assist the Tech department in running a smooth racing event. They are also there to race, so give them respect they deserve in all situations; please remember they are there for your benefit. When
a drivers representative is in the role he/she should be treated the same as a track official and
any abuse of the individual may result in a suspension. The suspension/penalty will be at the
discretion of the track management. Driver representative name and number may be obtained
from Tech director.
FUEL AND OIL ADDITIVES
The intention of the Varney Mini Truck Racing Association is to actively discourage tampering. Dilution, or alteration in any other way, of fuels and oils which have been carefully blended, tested and manufactured to be safe and harmless as possible.
The penalty for the use of any specifically banned substance or substance found in laboratory
analysis and deemed to be dangerous to any spectator, competitor or track official. There
will be a minimum of one year suspension from racing. This suspension may also apply at
any track that is sanctioned by the same insurance company used by the Varney Mini Truck
Racing Association.
Specifically banned is the addition or organometallice (TEL, TML, MMT), nitrogen bearing
compounds, aniline and carcinogenic aromatics. All substances listed in the hazmat list below are also specifically banned. Oxygenates may be found in the fuel only as added by the
manufacturer but may not exceed limits set by the EPA for street legal fuel.
To simplify: the use of chemicals speed enhancers is strictly prohibited. If you have any
questions or concerns fuel or oil related ash the Tech department before it is to late. No appeals will be allowed for a dangerous additive suspension.

injury or death to participant, crew member, spectators race officials or others.
This rule book is for the intended use of the Varney Mini Truck Racing Association only.
Driver and crew must also abide by general rules outlined by the Varney Motor Speedway.
Failure to abide by their rules will result in imposed penalties.
1) Chassis Specifications:
A. Frame:
- Frame must be MKS with serial number plate, or altered, or modified only with approved of Tech Director in writing - No home built frames.
- Chassis can be altered or modified with approval from Tech official.
- Frames from other suppliers need approval from tech in writing
B Upper/Lower Control Arms, Spindles and Wheel Hubs:
- Only stock MKS upper/lower control arms, spindles and wheel hubs allowed
- No altering of these components allowed including wheel studs.
C Suspension:
- Only AFCO springs and shocks allowed. With the following series #'s: Shocks 1500 Series Springs 29000 Series
- Lower rear chock mount spread is to be a maximum of 25". Measured centre to centre. Must remain in manufacturers stock position.
D Sway bars;
- Only OEM (MKS) front sway bars will be allowed. Note: It is not mandatory to run a front sway bar.
- Rear sway bars will not be allowed.
E Floor Pan:
- Full steel floor pan from firewall to front of truck mandatory. Must be steel.
- No floor and /or belly pans allowed behind rear firewall
F Firewall:
- Firewall must be steel and go full width of cage behind driver to upright cage post with side panel on each end.
- No ducting through of around firewall.
G Ground Clearance:
- Bottom of chassis to ground must be a minimum of 2" with driver.
- Measured at rocker panel on main frame rail both sides.
2) Wheel Base
- Wheel base to be a minimum of 69 ½” and a maximum of 70 ½”
3) Tread Width
- Maximum tread width of 45" measured from outside of rear tires only.
- Rear tread width must be even on each side of body for above measurement.
- No off-setting of body allowed front or rear.
4) Wheels/Tires
- Wheels must be aluminum approved racing wheel. (Example: Douglas)
- Only one size will be allowed 8" dis. X 6" wide. All 4 wheels must have same offset.
- Only one size tire will be allowed 15"x8"x7' American Racer and or Hossier
- Tires must be racing slick.
5) Steering:
- All tie rod bolts and A arm bolts and shock bolts must be wired or safety pinned
- No rear steering
- Quick release mechanism is mandatory
- No loose fitting quick releases will be allowed.
- Rack and pinion steering is permitted.
- No steering boxes permitted
- Universal joint allowed on steering shaft
- Steering Shaft Specifications:
- Solid .625 (5/8") diameter cold rolled steel
- Hollow .750 (3/4) .070 wall d.o.m. tube
6) Seat:
- High back aluminum seat is mandatory
- Seat must be bolted in four places with minimum of 5/16" diameter bolts.
- The seat must be located a minimum of 8 1/4" from outside of left frame rail to the narrowest part of seat. (Where side of seat meets back seat.) Must be mounted parallel to the two bottom mounting brackets.
7) Fuel Cells:
- Fuel cells are mandatory
- Fuel cells must be a foam or bladder type
- Fuel shut off valve mandatory, and must be mounted on right side rear frame rail.
- Fuel lines must be installed in a safe manner
- Metal box required to protect fuel cell
- No fuel cooling devices allowed. Example: Ice Canisters
- Must be mounted behind rear axle
8) Weight:
- Senior Truck must have a minimum weight of 725 lbs with driver
- Junior Trucks must have a minimum weight of 675 lbs with driver
- Maximum left side weight is 60% of total weight with the driver
9) Battery:
- Battery must be located behind fire wall and securely fastened.
10) Clutch:
- Dry type engine mounted clutch is mandatory.
- No transmission gear box or other device which permits a change of gear sprocket
ratio while vehicle is in motion is allowed. Torque converters are not allowed.
- No disc type clutched allowed
- No direct drivers allowed.
- Crank shaft extension no more than 7"
- Non-adjustable type clutch only
11) Chain Guards:
- Chain guard must be constructed of a minimum .080" steel or aluminum
- Chain guard must be a minimum of 3" wide
- Chain guard must be mounted no higher than 3" above chain
- Chain guard to curve 120 deg. Around clutch and extend to rear of truck to cover sprocket.
12) Brakes:
- Hydraulic brakes only (no scrub or band type brakes allowed)
- All brake systems must be in good working order
- If front and rear brakes are used there must be two master cylinders
- All bolt-on brake components must be cotter keyed for safety
13) Kill Switch
- Truck must have a kill switch located on left side of dash panel with a maximum dimension of 7 ½" from door bar.
14) Rear Axle:
- Rear axle dimension must be 1 1/4" diameter maximum
- No floater hubs
- Axle must have safety clips on each end to prevent hubs from coming off
15) Safety Belts:
- All trucks must have a 3' wide 5 point harness
- Harness cannot be cut or worn in any place
- Any belts in question will not be allowed
- All belts must be replaced 3 years after date of manufacture
16) Window Nets:
- All trucks must have a window net located on driver's side
- Minimum window net size is 14" x 12"
- Window net must be removable for safety crew to have access
17) Body Design:
- No floating bodies allowed
- Body must be MKS fiberglass body unaltered from original body
- Roof hatch must be fastened at rear to keep closed while racing
- No exterior or internal scrub rails
- Door panels must be bolted in four original locations on lower frame rails
(No hood pins or dsuz fasteners allowed)
- NACA ducts allowed. Must be Tech department approved. To be a maximum of 7"
ahead of front face of rear spoiler
- MKS Approved serial number stickers must be visible and unpainted
- Tech department approval on body
18) Numbers:
- Numbers must be located on both door panels and on roof over sizes
- Numbers on door must be a minimum of 14 ½” high
- Numbers on roof must be a minimum 12" high
- Numbers must be easily read from scoring tower.
19) Mirrors:
- Mirrors must be installed inside of truck on vertical door bar. Only one mirror allowed. Maximum size 4"x 8" only
20) Appearance:
- All trucks must be kept neat in appearance
- Plating is allowed
- Any trucks in question will be at the discretion of the Tech department
21) Motor
- Honda GX390 QAE 13.0 HP motor is mandatory. 398 cm3
GX390 QAE Motor Specifications
1. Governor mechanism may be removed
2. Decompressor mechanism may be removed
3. Block may be bored to the three oversizes available from Honda .25mm, .50mm and .75mm
4. Piston dish must be a minimum of .080"
5. Piston may be a maximum of .005" above deck
6. Stock Honda rings must be used and installed properly
7. Any ring gap allowed
8. Stroke shall be 64.1mm or 2.524" maximum
9. Stock or .010" undersize rods allowed
10. Stock air cleaners only
11. Any heat range spark plug allowed as long as the reach is stock
12. Stock valves and keepers, stellite ex allowed
13. Valves may be refaced but not excessively
14. Any valve spring allowed
15. Any carb jet and eulsion tube allowed
16. Minimum head CC is 26.5CC
17. 3 angle valve jobs allowed
18. Cylinder head thickness from deck surface to valve cover surface is 3.640 minimum

24. Any vacuum operated fuel pump only

33. Crankcase Oil Type : It is mandatory that each competitor use 4-cycle engine lubricating oil
that conforms to known SAE or API standards, with no additives, A sample bottle of oil shall
be provided to the technical inspector upon request
34. Restrictor Plates: The following restrictor plates are mandatory for the Junior Trucks Only
.700 Restrictor Plate Available from Tech Director for mini trucks
35.Motor Seals (Jr and Sr) All motors must have seals installed in following locations:
Crank Case Cover
Cylinder Head Bolt
Tech department reserves the right to check motors at any time in question
Note:
- All engines must be properly assembled in accordance with Honda shop manuals
- ie - piston arrow to bottom of cylinder valve guides in stock location
- All parts may be compared with known stock Honda part to verify their originality
- All motors to be supplies by Marshman Engines and /or Dave McCalem Engines
- All engine parts cannot be altered from OME standard Honda
Note:
2007 Race season will require one way radios to be mandatory, for flag men to line up and control racing rules.
Radios will be available to purchase or rent from Varney Motor Speedway.
