NOTICE TO ALL DRIVERS:
It is the intent that Varney Motor Speedway trusts each driver to build their car to fit the rules for the class they are running in. ALL drivers should come to the track with this in mind and NO driver should take it upon themselves to make their car and then expect the track to change the rules to fit their car. It is also the driver’s sole responsibility to ensure anyone doing any work on their car follows the rules for their class along with any purchased parts going into their car should be checked before hand to ensure they meet our rules.
1. BODY STYLE: Any steel, fiberglass or aluminum, deemed by officials to resemble an open wheeled modified.
2. BODY APPEARANCE: Any wing or spoiler will be allowed only if it is no higher than 16" above roof. Cars must have stock appearing roof with pillars which cover the roll cage and is attached to the windshield frame. Cars must have a hood which covers the engine and rad. Front wheels must be open style. Rear wheels must not stick out past nerf bars or scrub rails. Cars participating in racing events must be presentable at all times. The technical committee at any event may reject cars that are considered improperly prepared. Race cars must be complete at the beginning of each event. Any cars considered unsafe to driver, competitors, staff or fans will be rejected and not allowed on the track. Cars must be equipped with a hook-up point front and rear to pick up car. Maximum height of spoiler from ground to top of spoiler is 48". Spoiler sides and supports may extend from top of spoiler forward and taper down to the rear quarter panel. You must be able to see over or through rear spoiler (Lexan).No sideboard wings. Roof wings must be fastened to roll cage.
3. BATTERY: Must be anchored securely and outside the driver’s compartment. Battery must be mounted between the frame rails and no lower than the frame rails .A battery disconnect switch is mandatory and should be located behind race seat in the drivers window or in the centre of the dash.
4. BRAKES: All four wheels must stop when brakes are applied during test and inspection. Four wheel discs allowed .Dual master cylinder with balance bar allowed. No aluminum brake parts. Aluminum master cylinders and aluminum brake hats are allowed.
5. BUMPERS: Front bumper may be past frame only 2" on each side .Front and rear bumpers must be a minimum of 13" and a maximum of 17" from ground to centre of bumper. Front bumper must be double bumper style. Rear bumper must be double bumper style or have a hoop underneath original bumper style .Double side scrub rails are highly recommended. They should be close together at the front and widen out to approximately 12" at the back. All bumpers and side rails must have rounded corners. The rear bumper shall not be wider than the body. If the body does not cover the rear wheels ,a nerf bar should extend outward and forward from the rear bumper to within 1" of the outside of the rear wheel and then return to frame.
6. CARBURETOR: One holley 4412-500 cfm 2bbl or one holley 04776c-600cfm 4bbl, or one 4777c-650cfm 4bbl.The only changes allowed are jet and power valve and the removal of choke parts. No HP series carbs. Metering block numbers 5924 or 5925 only. Filling of choke rod hole allowed. Two throttle return springs and a stop are mandatory. An accelerator toe bar (kick-up) is mandatory. Must have an air cleaner maximum 6" high filter element.
7. CHASSIS AND SUSPENSION: Any passenger or fully fabricated tubular frames must be .095" thick and measure 10" circumference. If 2x3 tubing is used, the 3" dimension must be in vertical position. Frame must be steel, no holes drilled for lightening purposes. Rack and pinion allowed. Racing shocks allowed but with only one shock per wheel correria qai pro wb or ta or any other non adjustable steel body shock $150 limit. No aluminum body shocks allowed. Load bolts and rated springs are allowed .Rear springs must be minimum 4-1/2" O.D. Coil-over spring setups allowed on front only (any size springs that fit your set up). Coil over eliminators are allowed on the rear .Aftermarket spindles are allowed but they must take the stock rotor. The maximum track width measured 3" from the ground, from outside of tire to outside of tire is 80". Wheelbase is optional but must be within 1" from side to side. Frame height must be a minimum of 4" at the lowest point without driver (cross member excepted). There will only be one lift allowed to relieve settling. The rest of the front clip is open.
8. DRIVE LINE: Must have steel 360 degree retaining hoops 1/4x2" positioned at the front and rear of drive shaft within 6" of each universal joint. No chain retaining hoops. Steel driveshaft’s only. Drive shafts must be painted white.;
9. ENGINE: Engine must be centered in frame (max 1" left of centre) and a minimum of 72" from centre of rear end to flywheel face. Chevy 350 small block, Ford 351w, Chrysler 360 small block, only allowed engines. No aluminum blocks or cylinder heads (except on as produced crate engine option). Engine must retain stock dimensions for bore, stroke, and rod length for engine used. Max .060" overbore any cast or forged piston. Aftermarket steel I-beam or h-beam connecting rods allowed, stock length and journal diameter. Hydraulic flat tappet cams only, stock lifter diameter for engine used (Chevy .840", Ford.875", Chrysler.910"). Any cast iron cylinder head allowed, maximum 1.94" intake valve, maximum 1.60" exhaust valve (all makes). Screw in studs or pinning of studs allowed. Guide plates, roller rockers, rocker locks, stud girdles allowed. No shaft rockers (except Chrysler). All cylinder heads must retain OEM valve angle. Any cylinder head may have 1.494"+.020" valve spring, no titanium, hollow or lightweight valves. No porting, polishing or matching of head to intake or exhaust. Edelbrock intake manifolds #s Chev 2101(new style only) or 2116(Vortec) or factory crate engine manifold. Ford 2181, Chrysler 2176. No paint on intake manifold, must remain as manufactured. Minimum of 48lb crankshaft, no knife edging or bull nosing of crank. Must provide a 1" hole in oil pan for crank inspection or may be required to remove oil pan for crankshaft inspection. All engines maximum of 10.2:1 compression ratio. Approved crate engines (must remain as produced) 400HP Chev 350/400 crate engine #8895604 , 400HP Ford 347 crate engine #M-6007-D347SR , 400HP Chrysler 360 crate engine # P5007958. Crate engines must use a 6400 rpm rev limiting chip. Varney motor speedway may use any tools necessary to ensure compliance of these engine rules. Crate engines will be inspected the same as built engines.
10. ENGINE TEAR DOWN: Varney Motor Speedway reserves the right to two free tear downs during the current racing season. If engine is found to be illegal, Varney Motor Speedway will get another free tear down later. Refusal of tear down will result in disqualification and penalties as assessed by Track management.
11. EXHAUST: Corvette manifolds or headers may be used. Up and over allowed. No 180° headers allowed. If headers are homemade they must down draft a minimum of 2" below ports before they may rise again .Exhaust must exit outside of body and under 18" high. Exhaust must extend rearward to within one foot of the front of the drivers seat and must be turned outward. Flo Pro FP300 or Magnaflow 11219 or approved muffler with baffles by track tech.
12. FIRE SAFETY/CONTROL: Cars must have a minimum 2lb fire extinguisher mounted in a secure mounting bracket and within drivers reach with seat belts fastened. Fire extinguisher must have a gauge and if the extinguisher is older than three years it must have a recharge slip dated within 2 years. Onboard type fire extinguisher recommended. Car will not be allowed to race with fuel leaks. All oil leaks are to be dealt with promptly. Race Apparel: A drivers racing suit with a rating of SFI 3.2A/5 or better is mandatory. A driver's racing suit with a rating of SFI3.2A/1 will be accepted if in good condition and Nomex underwear is worn. Nomex underwear and balaclava recommended. Gloves are mandatory with a recommended rating of SFI3.3/1 or better but leather or "Mechanix" gloves will be accepted. Race shoes with a recommended rating of SFI 3.3/5 or better are mandatory Nomex socks are mandatory .A neck collar/helmet support with a recommended rating of SFI 3.3 or better is mandatory. All race apparel must be in good clean condition. If Nomex underwear is not used then any garments worn under race suit should be cotton (no polyester shirts or pants allowed).
13. FIREWALLS AND FLOOR: All fire walls and floor in driver's area must be a minimum of 22 gauge steel (includes front, back, and right side floor to tunnel). All firewalls must seal.
14. FUEL: Cars may use street legal pump gas with no additives or you may use the racing fuel available from Varney Motor Speedway with no additives allowed. Cars may be disqualified if they are caught using any fuel or additives that make their fuel any stronger than what is available from Varney Motor Speedway. No NOS allowed.
15. FUEL PUMP/LINES: Mechanical pump only, absolutely no electric pumps. Neoprene or steel gas line must be securely fastened under floor or inside a steel conduit. Steel or high pressure neoprene fuel lines only on pressure side of fuel pump (steel filter allowed). No glass or plastic fuel filters.
16. FUEL CELL: An approved fuel cell with a recommended rating of SFI 28.1 is mandatory. Fuel cells must be encased in a minimum 22 gauge steel box. The fuel cell must be securely mounted in trunk compartment between the frame rails (no notching of rails allowed) and behind the rear axle. The bottom of the steel box enclosing the fuel cell must be mounted no lower than any portion of the rear axle tube with the driver in the car. Two steel hoops under the fuel cell are recommended to protect the cell. Fuel cell must have rear hoop bar for protection. Fuel must not leak from cell if car is over turned .Fuel cell cap must seal and vent lines must have a check valve. Fuel cell cap must be tethered to the car. Fuel cell filler neck must be grounded to the car.
17. IGNITION: Must run a distributor. No crank triggers or magnetos. MSD box allowed 6A, 6AL. Cars must be self starting and have two ignition kill switches, one on each side .Kill switch must be painted red and clearly marked ON and OFF.
18. INTERIOR: Race seat must be used, bolted or welded to frame/cage. Seat must be positioned completely left of centerline of the car .Aluminum racing seats are mandatory. Headrest is mandatory. Oil pressure and heat gauges mandatory (oil line must be steel or braided line only).
19. PAINT AND LETTERING: All cars must be brightly painted. Numbers assigned by the track must be clearly legible on both sides of car and on roof in minimum 18" high and 2" wide. Numbers to be read from right side are to be in a colour offering a distinct contrast to the colour of the car. No trick numbers. No foil numbers. All cars must have their number in white (minimum 3" high) on upper right hand corner of the windshield for line-up purposes.
20. RADIATOR: Any rad may be used. Electric fans allowed. If using stock fan it should be shrouded for protection. A one gallon liquid overflow can is mandatory. No antifreeze allowed. Aluminum rads allowed.
21. REAR ENDS: Floaters are recommended. Spool or mini spool only. No Detroit lockers or gold tracks .No quick change allowed. No cambered axle tubes. Steel or aluminum hubs, no wide five hubs. Any three-point hook-up may be used not exceeding 30" centre to centre on mounting holes. Upper arms must not exceed 30". No springs or shocks in or on trailing arms or top link. Rubber pucks may be used.
22. ROLL CAGE: Cage must be constructed of 1-3/4" minimum outside diameter by .095" wall thickness round steel tubing. Front and rear roll bars must be connected at top and bottom and on both sides at seat height. Sidebars are compulsory and driver's side must extend into panels (minimum 4 bars on the left and 3 on right). All welds must have gussets of no less than .125" thickness. No pipe fittings allowed. Roll bars in driver's area must be padded with foam rubber with a recommended rating of SFI45.1 or better. Left leg protection bar must be installed between the roll cage and the left front frame rail. Main frame must have a minimum perimeter of 10" by .095" wall thickness extending from clip to rear suspension. Driver's side frame must be out to the side of the car. Roll bars must be mounted on top of the frame. Right side frame may be no closer to centre of the car than the inside edge of the stub used. Right side roll cage must go out or straight up to window level before it can be angled in towards the driver's area. Window level is considered to be minimum 15" above top of the frame on new cars built.
23. RACING BELTS/HARNESS: Racing belts/harness is mandatory. Minimum 3" four point harness with one lap belt set and two shoulder belts. Five or six point harness including sub belt with SFI16.1 rating is recommended. Shoulder belts must be securely mounted to the roll cage. Lap and crotch belts must be mounted to the roll cage or seat mount. All mount bolts must use self locking nuts or be double nutted. Mount bolts should be grade eight or better and should match the hole size of the belt anchor. Ensure that belts are not pinched when mounting them. Belts shall be mounted so that the anchors are in line with direction of pull. Seat belts must be dated within the past three years(at the start of race season) and in good condition.
24. SAFETY HELMET: A well fitting safety helmet in good condition must be worn in all practice and race events and until car is parked in pit area. Snell SA2000 helmet mandatory.
25 Tires:**
All entries are required to use track approved tires only, as purchased from Varney Speedway. A Durometer will be used to test tire softness, if a tire falls below our acceptable range the tire will be demand illegal(range to be announced by mid June).
- Tire allocation is based upon 1 tire per event. Teams may register new or used tires. The chart below shows how many and when teams would have eligible tires at the end of the feature race.

- New tires do not have to be used on the night purchased.
- Used tires may be sold to other teams, only after 2/32” are worn off tread indicators, numbers off tire must be transferred to new car #. Change must be approved by tech official, durometer readings will be taken prior to approval.
- If a brand new tire gets cut – tire may be replaced if approved by tech official.
- Each team will be permitted only three approved replacement tires for the season.
- Cars must complete 75% of the laps in an event in order to qualify for tire purchase the following week.
- Only registered/allocated tires are permitted to be used for any point’s race (heats, feature)
- In case of rainout if a tire is purchased and the feature does not run, the tire bought is your new tire for the next race.
- Tire management and strategy is up to each individual team.
- Registering tires with Varney Speedway Technical Staff is the responsibility of each team.
- If a car is caught competing in a points event with one or more non-registered tires, that car will be subject to loss of points and monies earned for that event.
-if during an inspection of the bar code, none of the numbers are legible, that tire will be deemed as “non-registered”
This tire rule does not apply to Invitational nights or the Varney Fall Classic.
26. TRANSMISSION: Stock type automatic transmissions, cooler is highly recommended. No coolers in driver's compartment. Transmission lines must be steel or neoprene transmission line or hydraulic line. Torque converter must be minimum 10" body and functional with no modifications. No valves and no direct drives. No aftermarket planetaries allowed. Stock type 3 or 4 speed manual transmission allowed. Stock type steel single disc clutch and pressure plate only. Minimum 10". Stock type steel flywheel only with no modifications allowed, minimum weight 14lbs. Minimum clutch weight to be determined.
27. WHEELS: Must be racing rims. Maximum width 8". Mag style tape-on wheel weights only, installed on flat of rim.
28. WINDSHIELD/WINDOWS: Lexan windshield in front of driver compulsory. It must be able to deflect any oil or debris that might enter the driver's compartment from the front and right front area. Driver’s window net mandatory with recommended rating of SFI 37.1. Must have top release. Minimum 3/8" tubing.
29. WEIGHT: 2700 lbs. with driver after race completion. No topping up of fuel after race, prior to weighing. All ballast weight must be mounted safely and securely to the frame rails and maintain a minimum 4" ground clearance. All weights must be labeled with car number and painted white. Added weights must be in block form in no less than 5lb blocks and must use self locking nuts or double nutted or drilled and safety wired, on 1/2" or better mounting bolts.**

31. Delaware mods will be teched according to there home track rules

PLEASE NOTE: Pay outs are based on a minimum 8 car field taking the green flag for the start of the night**. Should less than 8 cars take the green the last place car will be paid 8th place money 2nd last will be paid 7th place money and so on for the number of cars in the race.
